Brown, born June 29, 1843, Grapeville, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; son of John and Elizabeth Painter Brown; common school education; Harrison City Academy; Duff’s College; engaged, merchandising, farming; postmaster, Grapeville, Pennsylvania, 18 years; Grapeville, school director, three years; chairman, Westmoreland Republican Committee, 1891-1893; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1893-1900; appointed, first controller Westmoreland County, 1901, reelected; died, February 2, 1927 (aged 83) Jeannette, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; interment, Brush Creek Cemetery, Irwin, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
