John Brown

John Brown was born in Kishacoquillas Valley, near Lewistown, Mifflin County, Pa., August 12, 1772. He attended common schools; moved to Lewistown, Pa., in 1800; engaged in the gristmill and sawmill business; was a member of the state House of Representatives, 1809-1813; elected as a Republican to the Seventeenth Congress and as a Jackson Republican to the Eighteenth Congresses, 1821-1825; resumed his former business pursuits; moved to Limestone, Buncombe County, N.C. in 1827, and engaged in agricultural pursuits and the real estate business. He died in Limestone. Buncombe County, N.C. on October 12, 1845. Brown was interred in Riverside Cemetery, Asheville, N.C.
