Born in Cumberland County, March 4, 1824, Amos Boughter moved with his family to Lebanon; clerked for a private business; studied law under General John Weidman; joined the local bar, and married Amelia Fegley.  Elected to the state Senate, 1861-1863; Senator Boughter’s most memorable moment in Harrisburg occurred as he revealed attempts by the Pennsylvania Railroad to bribe him during the “tonnage tax” tax exemption debate.  The Honorable Amos Boughter passed away in Lebanon, March 2, 1879.  He is interred at Mt. Lebanon cemetery.
