Born February 20, 1762, near Myerstown at the old Ley homestead, Christian was the son of Michael and Eva Magdalena Ley.  He was a miller; organized the western Tulpehocken Lutheran Church; served as a captain in the state militia; was seated 1799-1802 in the state House of Representatives; and filled John Kean’s vacated seat in the state Senate for one year.  He died October 13, 1831; interred in the Union cemetery at Myerstown.
