John Klingensmith, Jr

Born in Westmoreland County, Pa. on March 26, 1786,* John Klingensmith Jr. was the son of John J. Sr. and Anna Elizabeth (Kauffer) Klingensmith. He served as sheriff of Westmoreland County, Pa., 1819-1822, 1828-1831; was elected to a vacant seat in Congress as a Jacksonian (and reelected), 1835-1839; served as a member of the Pennsylvania state Senate, 1831-1835; was secretary of the land office of Pennsylvania, 1839-1842; and died on February 8, 1854, in Westmoreland County, Pa.; interred in West Newton Cemetery, Westmoreland County, Pa. He married twice: (1)1808, to Nancy Ann Allshouse, daughter of state Senator Henry Allshouse; (2) to the sister of his deceased wife, Priscilla Allshouse.
