Judge Kidder was born on November 19, 1808, Waterford, Vermont, the son of Luther and Phebe Church Kidder, a member of one of America’s prolific political families. The family moved to Wilkes-Barre, settling in what became Kidder Township, Carbon County. Received a good education through tuition schools; read law and became an attorney; received an honorary Master of Arts degree from Dickinson law school, 1842, and served as President Judge of Carbon County, 1847. He served a three-year term in the state Senate, 1842-44. His wife was Martha Ann Scott Kidder, daughter of Judge Scott. Judge Kidder died on September 30, 1854.
