Herbst, and Violetta Maurer Herbst; public school education; Keystone State Normal School;  Pennsylvania College at Gettysburg, 1875; Jefferson Medical College, M. D., 1878; physician, private practice, Oley Pennsylvania, 1880; married, Lottie Stettler Herbst; elected director, Farmers First National Bank of Boyertown, 1889, cashier, 1907; district committeeman, district delegate, state delegate; chairman, Democratic Committee, Berks County, 1889-1892; Lazaretto Physician, Port of Philadelphia, 1891- 1893; United States Pension Examiner, Reading, 1893-1898; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1901-1916; died, February 17, 1919 (aged 61) interment, Friedens Church Cemetery, Oley, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
