Early Life:

James Martin Bell, born December 7, 1799, Bell’s Mills, Huntingdon County, (now Blair County) Pennsylvania; son of Edward and Mary Ann Martin Bell; subscription school education, Huntingdon County; studied law, admitted, Huntingdon Bar, 1826; engaged, private law practice, 1826; elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1838-1840; moved, Huntingdon to Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, 1845; engaged, invested, iron-business; entered, banking business; president, Huntingdon First National Bank; married, Mary Page Ward, 1829; died, June 4, 1870, residence, Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania; interment, Hollidaysburg Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania. 

Early Career: 

Studied law under Robert Allison of Huntingdon; engaged, banking, organized state banks, Johnstown and Huntingdon; president, Huntingdon First National Bank.

Pennsylvania Politics:

Elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State Senate, 8th district, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry and Union Counties, 1838-1840.
