Born on February 29, 1916, the son of Fred E. and Mazie Davis Beers of Scranton, Robert Beers graduated from Dalton High School, Bucknell University, and the Harvard Law School, pursuing a legal career as an attorney.  He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves with a rank of Lt. (SG) in the Pacific Theater, 1942-1946; member Supreme Court of Pennsylvania; Interstate Commerce Commission; Prothonotary of York County, 1952-1956; member, Board of Public Assistance, 1950-1954; and Spring Garden Zoning Board of Adjustment; solicitor, York Suburban School District and North York Borough; member and chair, Executive Committee of the Republican Party of York County; member of county, state, and federal bar associations; and member of numerous civic, professional, and fraternal associations.  He married Edith Close.  Senator Beers died on October 8, 2005.
