Born in Church Town, Conestoga Valley, Lancaster County, June 22, 1805, John C. Evans was the son of Welsh immigrant John and Margaret (Jones) Evans of Reading. After his father’s death, John’s widowed mother moved the family to Reading, Berks County, where he received a minimal rural education. In Berks he became a popular and wealthy farmer in Morgantown, Caernarvon Township. He was elected to the state House of Representatives, 1844; 1850; 1852, and served one term in the state Senate, 1856-1858. He married Ann Jones. The Hon. John Clarkson Evans died on February 5, 1879, interred at St. Thomas Cemetery, Morgantown, Berks County.
