Born in 1786 at Erwinna Bucks County, Senator John Erwin was the son of Col. Arthur Erwin and his second wife Mary Kennedy.  He succeeded his older stepbrother William Livingston Erwin in the Senate, although a different district.  Later of Northampton Township, Bucks (Northampton) County, he filled a one-year vacancy after the resignation of Thomas Rogers.  He died about a year later, June 4, 1820, Easton, Northampton County.
