Born on April 27, 1804, Jonathan Ely was the son of Jonathan and Cynthia (Morton) Ely of Buckingham, Bucks County; appointed Justice of the Peace, December 1832; member of the state House of Representatives, 1851-1853; and died on February 7, 1864. He married Mary Lee.
