Born in Bridgeton, New Jersey January 1800; a graduate of Princeton College; read law with Chief Justice Ewing of New Jersey; moved to Lancaster where he finished studies with Judge Porter; member of the Lancaster Bar, 1818; Deputy District Attorney for Mayor’s Court, 1824-1830; elected to the state House of Reps 1825 and 1828; appointed Deputy Attorney General of Lancaster County, 1830-33 by Gov. David Porter; President Judge Second Judicial District, 1839; state Senate, 1843-45; State Attorney General under Gov. Shunk, 1846-48; returned to the House, 1863; returned to Senate, 1864-66; and died on August 9, 1871 in Lancaster, interred Woodward Hill Cem.
