Samuel M Barclay
The son of Hugh and Hetty Barclay, Samuel was born in Bedford, Pennsylvania, October 17, 1802; educated at Bedford Academy; pursued farming; studied law under his older brother Josiah Barclay; admitted to the Bedford County bar about 1827; entered a law partnership with Frederick Murdoch; was elected as a Whig to the state House of Representatives, 1833; served a four-year term in the state Senate, 1837; and married Anna Morrison in 1839. She died in less than a year. He was a dedicated member of the New Jerusalem (or Swedenborgan) Church in Bedford. He died in Philadelphia, during a business trip, January 3, 1853.
