George William Gekas is the son of William and Mary Touloumes Gekas born in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pa., April 14, 1930; educated at William Penn High School, Harrisburg, Pa., 1948; Dickinson College, BA, 1952; Dickinson School of Law, DL, 1958; served in the US Army, 1953-1955; attorney, private practice; assistant district attorney, Dauphin County, Pa., 1960-1966; member of the state House of Representatives, 1966-1974; member of the state Senate, 1976-1982; elected to Congress, serving 1983-2003; one of the managers appointed by the US House of Representatives in 1988 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against Alcee Lamar Hastings, judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida; appointed by the House of Representatives in 1998 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against President William Clinton; unsuccessful candidate for reelection to Congress in 2002.  He married Evangeline C. Charas.
