Reuben Colburn Winslow (R37) Indiana and Jefferson Counties 1875-1876

Early Life:

Reuben Colburn Winslow, born November 9, 1833, family farm, Winslow Station, Gaskill Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania; son of Joseph W. Christina Long Winslow; attended common schools; Clearfield Academy; read law with Phineas Jenks, Honorable, George A. Jenks; admitted Jefferson County Bar, 1860; engaged, twenty year partnership with Phineas Jenks, at that time; afterwards, established the firm, Winslow and Calderwood, which was in business until retirement, 1907; married, Martha Drum, 1854, sons, John Carleton Winslow, William Warren Winslow; cofounder, Mahoning Bank, Punxsutawney, with Pennsylvania State Senator Harry White of Indiana, County, 1868; president, 1st National Bank 1883-1909, then became, Punxsutawney National Bank; founder, Punxsutawney Electric Light Company, Punxsutawney Water Company: died, April 17, 1912 (78 years, 5 months, 9 days) Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, interment, Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Politics:

Elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 37th district, Indiana and Jefferson Counties, 1875-1876; committee assignments, Finance, Pensions And Gratuities Retrenchment and Reform.

Legacy:

The Senator’s American progenitor, Kenelin Winslow, arrived with the Mayflower’s second voyage, 1629; Kenelin, brother of first Mayflower passenger, Plymouth Colony Governor Edward Winslow. 7th descent from the Mayflower Winslow’s, of Plymouth, Massachusetts.
