Senator Henry Allshouse was the son of Wuertemburg immigrants Heinrich and Susannah Alshaus, born February 8, 1757, Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.  Enlisting as a fifer, 1st Battalion of Associators, Northampton County, July 9, 1776, he saw action at Long Island, Brooklyn, and Fort Washington.  Captured, serving 18 months aboard a British prison ship in New York Harbor.  Released, he reenlisted, Fifth Battalion, Northampton Militia in 1778, engaged in Anglo-Indian campaign in Northern Pennsylvania and Western New York; promoted to the rank of Captain in the Continental Army and Major in the Pennsylvania Militia.  After hostilities, joined his parents in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania before 1790, where his family had moved during the war.  Member of state House of Representatives, 1802-1805, 1812-1815, 1817-1818; served thereafter in the state Senate, 1819-1826.  He married first, Catherine Marie Kunkel, and second, Catherine Elisabeth Truxell, the union producing 13 children.  Senator Allshouse died on August 11, 1837, Grapeville, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County.
