                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 22, 1931 (P.L.720), entitled "An act
     2     providing for the taking over by the Commonwealth, under
     3     certain terms, conditions and limitations, of certain streets
     4     in cities of the second class, second class A, and third
     5     class as State highways, and for the improvement,
     6     construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and maintenance by
     7     the Commonwealth of certain defined widths of said streets;
     8     imposing duties on such cities and on public utility
     9     companies using such streets; providing that no assessment
    10     shall be made upon the Commonwealth in the elimination of any
    11     grade crossing thereon; authorizing cities, persons,
    12     associations, or corporations to enter into agreements with
    13     the Commonwealth to bear a portion of the cost of
    14     construction or maintenance; providing for the assessment of
    15     certain portions of the cost of street improvements on
    16     abutting property owners; regulating the replacement of
    17     certain facilities of public utility companies; prohibiting
    18     the opening of said streets after improvement without a
    19     permit, and providing penalty therefor; regulating the
    20     maintenance of detours; authorizing the increase of city
    21     indebtedness in certain cases; and appropriating money in the
    22     Motor License Fund for the purposes of this act," changing
    23     routes in the City of Bethlehem.

    24     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    25  hereby enacts as follows:
    26     Section 1.  The following routes, established by the act of
    27  June 22, 1931 (P.L.720), entitled "An act providing for the
    28  taking over by the Commonwealth, under certain terms, conditions
    29  and limitations, of certain streets in cities of the second

     1  class, second class A, and third class as State highways, and
     2  for the improvement, construction, reconstruction, resurfacing
     3  and maintenance by the Commonwealth of certain defined widths of
     4  said streets; imposing duties on such cities and on public
     5  utility companies using such streets; providing that no
     6  assessment shall be made upon the Commonwealth in the
     7  elimination of any grade crossing thereon; authorizing cities,
     8  persons, associations, or corporations to enter into agreements
     9  with the Commonwealth to bear a portion of the cost of
    10  construction or maintenance; providing for the assessment of

    19  to read:
    20     L.R. 48049.  Beginning at a point on Schoenersville Road, on
    21  the dividing line between the city of Bethlehem and Hanover
    22  Township; thence over Schoenersville Road to the intersection of
    23  Schoenersville Road and [Mauch Chunk Road; thence over Mauch
    24  Chunk Road to the intersection of Mauch Chunk Road and West
    25  Elizabeth Avenue; thence over West Elizabeth Avenue to the
    26  intersection of Main Street,] proposed Washington Avenue in the
    27  city of Bethlehem, a distance of about [2.60] 2.22 miles.
    28     L.R. 159.  Beginning at a point on West Union Boulevard, on
    29  the dividing line between the city of Bethlehem and the city of
    30  Allentown; thence over West Union Boulevard to the intersection

     1  of West Union Boulevard and [North Main Street; thence over
     2  North Main Street to the intersection of North Main Street and
     3  West Elizabeth Avenue; thence over West Elizabeth Avenue and
     4  East Elizabeth Avenue to the intersection of East Elizabeth
     5  Avenue, Linden Street,] the Bethlehem Spur Route L. R. 1007;
     6  beginning again at the intersection of Washington Avenue and 
     7  Easton Avenue, and [road known as the Nazareth Pike; thence]
     8  continuing over Easton Avenue to a point on the dividing line
     9  between the city of Bethlehem and Bethlehem Township, at a point
    10  known locally as the Butztown Road in the city of Bethlehem, a
    11  distance of about [5.31] 3.66 miles.
    12     L.R. 297.  Beginning at a point on Wyandotte Street, on the
    13  dividing line between the city of Bethlehem and Lower Saucon
    14  Township; thence over Wyandotte Street and viaduct crossing
    15  Lehigh Valley Railroad, Lehigh River, and Central Railroad of
    16  New Jersey tracks, to the intersection of [South Main Street and
    17  West Church Street; thence over South Main Street and North Main
    18  Street to the intersection of North Main Street and West Union
    19  Boulevard, beginning again on Nazareth Road, at the intersection
    20  of Linden Street, East Elizabeth Avenue, and Easton Avenue;
    21  thence over] the Main Street Ramp and the Hill to Hill Bridge,
    22  beginning again at the intersection of Washington Avenue and
    23  Linden Street also known as Nazareth road, and continuing over
    24  Nazareth road to a point on the dividing line between the city
    25  of Bethlehem and Bethlehem Township, in the city of Bethlehem, a
    26  distance of about [4.40] 3.44 miles.
    27     L.R. 48011.  Beginning at a point on Pembroke Road, on the
    28  dividing line between the city of Bethlehem and the Borough of
    29  Freemansburg; thence over Pembroke Road to the intersection of
    30  Pembroke Road and [Goepp Street; thence over Goepp Street to the

     1  intersection of Goepp Street and Linden Street; thence over
     2  Linden Street to the intersection of Linden Street and East
     3  Union Boulevard; thence over East Union Boulevard to the
     4  intersection of East Union Boulevard and Main Street,] Stefko
     5  Boulevard, in the city of Bethlehem, a distance of about [2.20]
     6  .88 miles.
     7     Section 2.  The act is amended by adding two routes to read:
     8     Route__________.  Beginning at a point at the intersection of
     9  Route 1007 (Bethlehem Spur) and Eighth Avenue; thence in a
    10  northerly direction over Eighth Avenue to an intersection with
    11  Eaton Avenue and proposed Washington Avenue; thence in an
    12  easterly direction over proposed Washington Avenue to an
    13  intersection of Schoenersville Road (Route 48049) and proposed
    14  Washington Avenue; thence in a northeasterly direction over
    15  proposed Washington Avenue, to a point on the dividing line of
    16  the City of Bethlehem, Lehigh County and Hanover Township,
    17  Northampton County; thence beginning again on the easterly
    18  dividing line of Hanover Township and the City of Bethlehem,
    19  Northampton County, crossing Monacacy Creek, and continuing in
    20  an easterly direction over proposed Washington Avenue to an
    21  intersection with Main Street and existing Washington Avenue;
    22  thence continuing over existing Washington Avenue in an easterly
    23  direction to an intersection with Linden Street (Route 297);
    24  thence in a southeasterly direction over existing Washington
    25  Avenue, crossing Easton Avenue (Route 159), and continuing over
    26  existing Washington Avenue to an intersection with Stefko
    27  Boulevard; thence in a southwesterly direction over Stefko
    28  Boulevard, crossing Pembroke Road (Route 48011), and continuing
    29  in a southwesterly direction over Stefko Boulevard to an
    30  intersection with Goepp Street; thence over Stefko Boulevard in

     1  a southerly direction to a point at the northern end of the
     2  Minsi Trail Bridge (Off-Route but owned by the Commonwealth);
     3  thence in a southerly direction over the Minsi Trail Bridge and
     4  its southerly approach to an intersection with Daly Avenue;
     5  thence in a southeasterly direction over Daly Avenue to a point
     6  at the intersection of Daly Avenue and East Fourth Street (Route
     7  530) in the City of Bethlehem, Lehigh and Northampton Counties,
     8  a distance of about 3.7 miles.
     9     Route__________.  Beginning at a point at the intersection of
    10  Schoenersville Road (L.R. 48049) the dividing line of the City
    11  of Bethlehem, Lehigh County and Hanover Township, Northampton
    12  County and proposed Washington Avenue, thence in a northeasterly
    13  direction over proposed Washington Avenue to the intersection of
    14  proposed Washington Avenue and the dividing line of Hanover
    15  Township and the City of Bethlehem, in Hanover Township,
    16  Northampton County, a distance of about 0.1 of a mile.
    17     Section 3.  This act shall take effect immediately.
