COSTA, HUTCHINSON AND BREWSTER, OCTOBER 25, 2023

REFERRED TO RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, OCTOBER 25, 2023

to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of the more than

13,000 PIAA registered officials for interscholastic athletics;

and

WHEREAS, The PIAA Board of Directors announced that October 1

through 7, 2023, will mark the first of three "PIAA Officials

Appreciation Weeks" taking place this year; and

WHEREAS, The appreciation week for winter sports officials

will take place January 7 through 13, 2024, and for spring

sports it will take place April 14 through 20, 2024; and

WHEREAS, The PIAA will promote the appreciation weeks and

WHEREAS, PIAA officials work tirelessly to create a safe and

fair athletic environment for student-athletes and coaches; and

WHEREAS, PIAA officials have a difficult job due to pressure

to make correct calls while maintaining order between opposing

fan bases and in the game itself; and

WHEREAS, It is both reasonable and appropriate to designate

"PIAA Officials Appreciation Weeks" in this Commonwealth and

encourage schools, coaches, student-athletes and fans to

participate and thank officials who put their time and

dedication into sports and the PIAA community; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate October 1 through 7,
