A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 25, 2024, as "National Medal of Honor Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Medal of Honor, the highest award for valor in
action against an enemy force, is bestowed upon members of the
armed forces who have distinguished themselves conspicuously by
gallantry and intrepidity at great personal risk, going above
and beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, The Medal of Honor was first awarded on March 25,
1863, and has since been conferred to 3,517 individuals for
their bravery and selflessness; and
WHEREAS, There are currently 63 living recipients of the
Medal of Honor; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has a rich legacy of valor, with 379
accredited Medal of Honor recipients, ranking second only to New
York state in total awards; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania takes immense pride in its
distinguished military history and the courageous individuals
