A RESOLUTION
Designating October 19, 2023, as "Purple Thursday" and as
"Domestic Violence Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Domestic violence is a pervasive problem affecting
individuals, families and communities across the United States,
including this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, It is essential to raise public awareness about
domestic violence and its devastating impact on victims,
families and society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, "Purple Thursday" is a national campaign aimed at
promoting awareness about domestic violence, highlighting the
importance of prevention and providing support for victims and
survivors; and
WHEREAS, The color purple symbolizes courage, peace, survival
and dedication to ending domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth recognizes the significance of
"Domestic Violence Awareness Day" as an opportunity to educate
the public, encourage community involvement and foster an

environment of support for individuals affected by domestic
violence; and
WHEREAS, "Domestic Violence Awareness Day" serves to honor
the survivors, remember the victims and reinforce the commitment
of our Commonwealth to combat domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has been at the forefront of
efforts to address domestic violence, with various
organizations, advocates and law enforcement agencies working
tirelessly to support victims, raise awareness and promote
prevention strategies; and
WHEREAS, It is crucial to acknowledge the significant strides
made in this Commonwealth in the fight against domestic violence
while recognizing that more work is needed to eradicate this
heinous crime; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
19, 2023, as "Purple Thursday" and as "Domestic Violence
Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.
