A RESOLUTION
Designating May 30, 2023, as "Kennywood Park Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, On May 30, 1899, Kennywood Park opened as a trolley
park at the end of the Monongahela Street Railway to offer
entertainment for mill workers and their families; and
WHEREAS, Kennywood Park is a popular tourist destination and
regional park where patrons from across the nation and around
the community meet to enjoy Kennywood Park's charms and thrills;
and
WHEREAS, Kennywood Park works tirelessly to preserve its
history, being named a National Historic Landmark in 1987; and
WHEREAS, Kennywood Park operates three historic classic
rollercoasters, the Jack Rabbit, the Racer and the Thunderbolt,
all dating to the 1920s, that continue to win national awards;
and
WHEREAS, Kennywood Park features old-time nostalgia in "Lost

Kennywood," a section of rides which replicate the architecture
and design of the park's rides decades ago; and
WHEREAS, Kennywood Park hosts many events and festivals
throughout the year, from the "Pierogi Fest" and "Phantom Fright
Nights" to "Holiday Lights"; and
WHEREAS, Kennywood Park continues to employ hundreds of local
teenagers and young adults, serving as a steppingstone for
thousands of careers; and
WHEREAS, While honoring its history and traditions, Kennywood
Park has not lost sight of the present and continues to grow and
improve, installing new rides while maintaining its classic
rollercoasters; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 30,
2023, as "Kennywood Park Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives celebrate the
125th anniversary of Kennywood Park's opening in Allegheny
County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
owners, workers and patrons on more than a century of fun at
Kennywood Park, with many more years to come.
