A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Designating the week of November 13 through 19, 2022, as "Nurse
Practitioner Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Nurse practitioners, also known as certified
registered nurse practitioners or advanced practice registered
nurses, are some of the hardest-working health professionals
across the nation; and
WHEREAS, Nurse practitioners are highly educated and trained
medical professionals who provide primary care, counseling,
diagnoses, prescriptions, health education and other medical
services to more than 1 billion patients each year; and
WHEREAS, Research has shown that nurse practitioners provide
high-quality, cost-effective and unique approaches to health
care that result in a high level of patient satisfaction; and
WHEREAS, Patients under the care of a nurse practitioner are
reported to have less risk of severe health problems in their
future; and
WHEREAS, The nurse practitioner profession began in response

to an increase in demand for primary care providers in the
United States and has been in existence for more than 50 years;
and
WHEREAS, Currently, there are more than 16,000 professionals
recognized as certified registered nurse practitioners in this
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, "National Nurse Practitioner Week" was created by
the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners to celebrate the
importance of nurse practitioners and urge lawmakers to remove
practice restrictions still in place today; and
WHEREAS, Research has proven that the current mandates placed
on Pennsylvania nurse practitioners restrict access to care and
offer no patient health benefits; and
WHEREAS, The recognition of "Nurse Practitioner Week" in this
Commonwealth can bring better awareness to this important
profession and help remove the barriers to practice; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, the United States Congress officially
recognized "National Nurse Practitioner Week" in this country;
therefore be it
RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
designate the week of November 13 through 19, 2022, as "Nurse
Practitioner Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the General Assembly recognize the countless
contributions that Pennsylvania nurse practitioners have made
over the past half-century and will continue to make on behalf
of the health and well-being of all.
