A RESOLUTION
Encouraging the United States Senate to pass H.R. 1, known as
the For the People Act.
WHEREAS, In the United States of America, government is
composed of the people, directed by the people and operates for
the people; and
WHEREAS, Participation in free and fair elections is the way
citizens direct their government; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania enjoyed record voter participation in
the 2020 general and presidential elections; and
WHEREAS, The high level of participation in the November 2020
election should be celebrated and serve as a reminder that
government belongs to the people; and
WHEREAS, Some elected officials across the United States are
proposing new restrictions on electoral participation; and
WHEREAS, Such restrictions inhibit the rights and ability of
the people to direct their government; and
WHEREAS, The United States House of Representatives recently

passed H.R. 1, known as the For the People Act; and
WHEREAS, H.R. 1 protects democracy for people in every state
and limits efforts to restrict participation in free and fair
elections; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians would benefit from numerous
provisions in H.R. 1, including provisions that expand access to
early voting, streamlining voter registration and improving
election security; and
WHEREAS, H.R. 1 also requires congressional districts to be
drawn using independent redistricting commissions; and
WHEREAS, The provisions of H.R. 1 will expand Pennsylvanians'
access to the ballot box and strengthen democracy in the
Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage the
United States Senate to pass H.R. 1; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
each United States Senator from Pennsylvania.
