AN ACT
Amending Title 53 (Municipalities Generally) of the Pennsylvania
Consolidated Statutes, in employees, providing for police
canine training standards.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Title 53 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
ยง 2172. Police canine training standards.
(a) Establishment.--The commission, in coordination with the
Pennsylvania State Police, shall establish canine team and
canine specialty team training and certification standards that
follow the standards used by the United States Police Canine
Association.
(b) Review and update.--The standards established under
subsection (a) shall be reviewed and updated every two years or
as necessary when changes are made to the United States Police
Canine Association standards.
(c) Notice.--The commission shall transmit notice of the

standards established and updated under this section to the
Legislative Reference Bureau for publication in the Pennsylvania
Bulletin.
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 120 days.
