lodging, and providing recovery support; and
WHEREAS, When large disasters like Hurricane Dorian, the
California wildfires and Midwest tornadoes and floods devastated
families across the country last year, more than 100 volunteers
from this Commonwealth were among the nearly 9,000 Red Cross
workers, 90% of them volunteers, who left their homes to work
alongside partners to provide refuge, food, relief items,
emotional support, recovery planning and other assistance; and
WHEREAS, The Red Cross continues to work with its partners to
prevent fire tragedies through its national Home Fire Campaign,
which installed its 2,000,000th free smoke alarm last year and
has saved hundreds of lives across the country since the
campaign was launched five years ago; and
WHEREAS, In Pennsylvania, the Red Cross recently installed
its 100,000th free lifesaving smoke alarm to help keep the
residents of our Commonwealth safe; and
WHEREAS, In Pennsylvania, the Red Cross provided more than
12,000 services for our active duty military, veterans and their
families; and
WHEREAS, In addition, more than 200,000 residents were
trained in lifesaving skills, such as first aid and CPR; and
WHEREAS, We recognize the volunteer heroes in this
Commonwealth who make this work possible to help our neighbors
when they need a helping hand; and
WHEREAS, Every day people in our community depend on the
American Red Cross, whose lifesaving mission is powered by the
devotion of volunteers, generosity of donors and partnership of
community organizations; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of March 2020
as "American Red Cross Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
