A RESOLUTION
Recognizing October 29, 2019, as "International Data Center Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "International Data Center Day" was created to raise
awareness of the data center industry and to inspire the next
generation of talent in this industry; and
WHEREAS, By providing a mechanism to conduct digital
transactions and storage of financial information to our vital
health records, data centers are critical to our daily lives;
and
WHEREAS, It is essential that these buildings operate 24
hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year without interruption
and be constructed to be highly reliable with flawless data
connectivity, great access to power, superior energy efficiency
and highly secure facilities; and
WHEREAS, There are currently more than 8 million data centers
worldwide; and
WHEREAS, Nationwide, data centers take up more than 2% of all

the electric on the country's power grid; and
WHEREAS, Presently, there are approximately 63,000 searches
performed on search engines every second in data centers and it
is projected that there will be more than 50 billion smart
devices in use by the year 2020, requiring an increase in data
center growth to service those devices; and
WHEREAS, Data centers are and will increasingly become a
supplier of high-paying jobs to citizens of all skill sets, as
the projected job growth for the data center industry is 12%
through 2024; and
WHEREAS, The average salary for a data center engineer varies
depending on where the data center is located with an overall
current estimated data center engineer average salary being
$63,000 per year; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize October 29, 2019, as
"International Data Center Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the value of the data
center industry as a fundamental part of industry and our
economy.
