INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, MAY 1, 2019
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 12 through 18, 2019, as "National
Police Week" and designating May 6, 2019, as "Police
Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Since the beginning of law enforcement within this
Commonwealth, hundreds of police officers have made the ultimate
sacrifice while in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, Deputy United States Marshal Christopher David Hill,
with the United States Marshals Service, made the ultimate
sacrifice on January 18, 2018, while attempting to serve an
arrest warrant with the Middle Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force;
and
WHEREAS, Detective Sergeant Brian Scott Cuscino, with the New
Castle Police Department, made the ultimate sacrifice on April
19, 2018, while participating in the department's mandatory
physical fitness program; and
WHEREAS, Police Officer Alex Sable, with the York City Police
Department, made the ultimate sacrifice on May 9, 2018, during a

SWAT training exercise; and
WHEREAS, Police Officer Raymond Diaz, Jr., with the
Philadelphia Police Department, made the ultimate sacrifice on
September 9, 2016, due to complications from injuries sustained
during an on-the-job incident; and
WHEREAS, Across the United States, the week of May 12 through
18, 2019, is being recognized as "National Police Week"; and
WHEREAS, The first "National Police Officers' Memorial Day"
was held on May 15, 1982, following a proclamation signed by
President John F. Kennedy on October 1, 1962; and
WHEREAS, The observance continues to be held annually in
memory of those police officers who have made the ultimate
sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of May 12
through 18, 2019, as "National Police Week" and designate May 6,
2019, as "Police Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the memory of the hundreds of
police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty
in this Commonwealth.
