A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of March 2019 as "Fibromuscular Dysplasia
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is a disease that
causes abnormal cell growth of the arterial walls in the body
and can lead to areas of narrowing, beading, aneurysms and
tearing of areas of the arterial wall; and
WHEREAS, FMD is most commonly detected accidentally or as a
result of a serious incident because its symptoms, including
hypertension, headaches and dizziness, also commonly have other
causes and are found among much of the general population; and
WHEREAS, There has been little progress in understanding the
disease since the first diagnosis in 1938; and
WHEREAS, There is no known cause or cure and there are no set
protocols for treatment; and
WHEREAS, FMD is classified as a rare disease and many
researchers believe it is underdiagnosed; and
WHEREAS, Ninety percent of individuals affected by FMD are
