A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of February 2019 as "Mutual Insurance
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the birthplace of America's
insurance industry; and
WHEREAS, The first insurance company, The Philadelphia
Contributionship, a mutual insurance company founded by Benjamin
Franklin in 1752, is still meeting consumers' insurance needs
today; and
WHEREAS, Mutual insurance companies are a major economic
force in this Commonwealth, with $3.4 billion or more in
property and casualty insurance premiums to meet the insurance
needs and resolve insurance claims for residents and businesses
in this Commonwealth, plus the thousands of jobs generated by
these companies; and
WHEREAS, Mutual insurance companies are a significant
contributor to State and local governments because of the
premium taxes they pay to the State and property taxes they pay
to municipalities and school districts; and
