priority.
(4) Senator Kasunic pursued construction of a limited
access four-lane highway through Fayette County in
furtherance of the public safety, welfare and economic
development.
(5) In 1985, the General Assembly passed Senate Bill No.
441, which was signed into law as the former act of September
30, 1985 (P.L.240, No.61), known as the Turnpike
Organization, Extension and Toll Road Conversion Act, which
authorized the Mon-Fayette Expressway.
(6) The construction of the Mon-Fayette Expressway
through Fayette County occurred in two phases. The first,
known as the Mason-Dixon Link, consisted of nearly eight
miles of highway that opened for traffic in March 2000.
(7) The second phase of the Mon-Fayette Expressway,
known as the Uniontown to Brownsville Link, began with an
interchange at U.S. Route 119 and proceeded northwest 15
miles to an interchange with State Route 88 in Centerville
Borough, Washington County, and opened fully to traffic in
July 2012.
(b) Designation.--The interchange of the Mon-Fayette
Expressway, Pennsylvania Route 43 and U.S. Route 119 in North
Union Township, Fayette County, is designated the Senator
Richard A. Kasunic Interchange.
(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the
interchange to traffic in both directions on the interchange.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
