A RESOLUTION
Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Slinky.
WHEREAS, The iconic American toy, the Slinky, is celebrating
its 75th anniversary in 2020; and
WHEREAS, The Slinky is a Pennsylvania treasure that was
introduced to the public in Philadelphia in 1945 by its creator,
Richard James, and his wife, Betty; and
WHEREAS, In 1948, James Industries built a factory to
manufacture the popular toy in suburban Philadelphia and 10
years later set up headquarters in Hollidaysburg where the
factory produces the Slinky to this day; and
WHEREAS, The Slinky has had a storied career as one of the
country's favorite toys, including a telecasted demonstration
from the Discovery Space Shuttle in 1985, a Slinky postage stamp
in 1999 and induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame in
2000; and
WHEREAS, The Slinky was acquired by Just Play, a private toy
