A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of September 19 through 25, 2020, as "Thank
a Local Farmer Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Farms located in this Commonwealth offer an
abundance of fresh, wholesome food; and
WHEREAS, Consumers in this Commonwealth wish to purchase and
enjoy the freshest and healthiest foods available on the market
and support farms within their communities whenever possible;
and
WHEREAS, Farmers in this Commonwealth do not exclusively sell
produce locally and directly to their neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Rather, farmers in this Commonwealth provide food to
consumers on a regional and even a global basis and have filled
a uniquely vital role during times of market disruption,
including during the public health emergency caused by the
COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, The economic success of farms and farmers in this
Commonwealth is a key factor in maintaining the strength of
local and regional economies; and
WHEREAS, Farmers in this Commonwealth play an important role
in preserving our natural resources; and
WHEREAS, Strong relationships between farmers and their
customers result in a better life for residents in this
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Farmers are fundamental to making local, healthy and
fresh foods available to residents of this Commonwealth,
including those individuals who use charitable food systems; and
WHEREAS, Thanking farmers through purchasing their local
Pennsylvania products strengthens the fabric of this
Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognizes the
week of September 19 through 25, 2020, as "Thank a Local Farmer
Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage all
residents and businesses in this Commonwealth to participate in
celebrating our rich agricultural heritage and the bounty of our
local harvest.
