A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of November 2020 as "Dementia Awareness
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, A growing number of Pennsylvanians are facing the
challenges of living with various forms of dementia; and
WHEREAS, Older adults with dementia are more likely to need
assistance from family, friends, caregivers and first responders
due to dementia and the associated risk for elopement; and
WHEREAS, Families who have loved ones with dementia deserve
to be recognized for the courage, dedication and sacrifices they
make in providing care; and
WHEREAS, Many Pennsylvanians are professional caregivers for
individuals with dementia, providing an important and difficult
service for those they assist; and
WHEREAS, The Dementia Society of America's Operation
KeepSafe
TM
program, which provides basic education, along with

low-cost and no-cost kits for those living with dementia and
their families that include an identification bracelet, wallet
card, stickers for items like a cell phone or the refrigerator
door, instructions and helpful information; and
WHEREAS, The health and safety of Pennsylvanians living with
dementia is of utmost importance; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of November 2020 as "Dementia Awareness Month" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage local
communities to adopt programs like Operation KeepSafe
TM
as a
first step in becoming dementia-friendly for their residents who
are living with dementia and the families and caregivers that
assist them.
