A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of October 2019 as "Cybersecurity
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Internet-based devices are present in all aspects of
our lives, homes, workplaces and person; and
WHEREAS, Due to constant connectivity with the Internet, the
risk of cybersecurity threats increases exponentially, requiring
individuals to take steps to increase their personal
cybersecurity; and
WHEREAS, "Cybersecurity Awareness Month" was created as a
collaborative effort between government and private industry to
ensure every citizen has the resources they need to stay safe
and secure online; and
WHEREAS, The theme for 2019 is "Own IT. Secure IT. Protect
IT."; and
WHEREAS, "Own IT" means individuals need to understand the
devices and applications used every day to help ensure personal
information is safe and secure; and

WHEREAS, "Secure IT" means individuals need to learn about
and use security features available on the devices, software and
applications; and
WHEREAS, "Protect IT" means individuals must understand,
secure and maintain digital profiles, ensuring familiarity with
and routinely checking privacy settings to protect information
and limit cybercrimes; and
WHEREAS, The cybersecurity industry and the importance of
cybersecurity will continue to grow; and
WHEREAS, It is vital for all individuals in this Commonwealth
and across the country to actively participate in protecting
themselves from cybercriminals; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October
2019 as "Cybersecurity Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That the members of the House of Representatives
and all Pennsylvanians work to ensure proper cybersecurity to
protect themselves from falling victim to cybercriminals.
