A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of May 2019 as "Older Pennsylvanians
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, May is traditionally recognized as "Older Americans
Month" in the United States, a month set aside to honor older
adults who are among the most treasured resources, who are
united by historical experiences and strengthened by diversity
and who interpret events through varied perspectives and
backgrounds to bring wisdom and insight to our communities; and
WHEREAS, The Department of Health and Human Services'
Administration on Aging has announced that the theme of "Older
Americans Month 2019" is "Connect, Create, Contribute"; and
WHEREAS, Older adults in this Commonwealth are reaching out
to "connect" with friends, family and services, they "create" by
engaging in activities that promote learning, health and
personal enrichment and they "contribute" time, talent and life

experience to benefit others; and
WHEREAS, Our communities can provide opportunities to enrich
the lives of individuals of all ages by promoting and engaging
in activity, wellness and social involvement, emphasizing home-
based and community-based services that support independent
living and ensuring that community members can benefit from the
contributions and experience of older adults; and
WHEREAS, This year's theme emphasizes that you are never too
young or too old to take part in activities that can enrich your
physical, mental and emotional well-being; and
WHEREAS, Increasing numbers of adults are reaching retirement
age and it is especially important to note that those who were
born in the first year of the baby boom generation reached 65
years of age in 2011; and
WHEREAS, The expected population of those individuals who are
at least 65 years of age living in this Commonwealth will grow
to 25% of the population of this Commonwealth by the year 2020;
and
WHEREAS, Older adults are productive, active and influential
members of society who share essential talents, wisdom and life
experiences with their families, friends and neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Older adults deserve recognition for the
contributions they have made and will make to the culture,
economy and character of the United States and this
Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of May 2019 as "Older Pennsylvanians Month" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That every citizen be urged to take time this month
to honor Pennsylvania's older adults and the professionals,
