A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and congratulating the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc., on their annual "AKA Day at the Capitol" on
March 19, 2019.
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives applauds Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Inc., for their strong advocacy on issues
important to the future of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the oldest Greek-
letter organization established by African-American, college-
educated women, was founded January 15, 1908, at Howard
University in Washington, DC; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., celebrates 111
years of sisterhood and service to all mankind across the nation
in small towns, big cities and throughout the world as the
sorority has an international presence; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is currently
comprised of 300,000 collegiate members and alumnae, 1,018

chapters in 47 states and 1 United States territory, the
District of Columbia, the Bahamas, Germany, Liberia, South
Korea, Japan, Canada, South Africa and the Middle East; and
WHEREAS, Service programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Inc., are centered around significant issues that affect
society; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Glenda Glover, the 30th
International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the
2018-2022 International Program has focused on Exemplifying
Excellence Through Sustainable Service; and
WHEREAS, Under the international program theme of
Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service, sorority
programming addresses community concerns surrounding education,
women's health and wellness, building stronger families,
environmental sustainability and global impact; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is comprised of 10
regions; and
WHEREAS, Members residing in Eastern Pennsylvania are members
of the North Atlantic Region consisting of Eastern Pennsylvania,
Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Eastern New
York, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey,
Rhode Island and Vermont; and
WHEREAS, Members residing in Western Pennsylvania are members
of the Great Lakes Region consisting of Western Pennsylvania,
Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan and Western New York; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., chapters
throughout this Commonwealth continue to flourish through
members' community service involvement, social and political
action and scholastic achievement; and
WHEREAS, Program events, service projects and educational

workshops have expanded access to opportunities for communities
across this Commonwealth, nation and abroad; and
WHEREAS, "AKA Day at the Capitol" provides sorority members
with an opportunity to strengthen their relationships with the
elected officials that serve their local communities; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and
congratulate the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., on
their annual "AKA Day at the Capitol" on March 19, 2019.
