A RESOLUTION
Honoring the legacy of Hannah Callowhill Penn; and designating
March 12, 2019, as "Hannah Callowhill Penn Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Hannah Callowhill Penn was born in Bristol, England,
on February 11, 1671; and
WHEREAS, On March 5, 1696, she married William Penn, founder
of the Province of Pennsylvania, and the couple arrived in
Philadelphia on December 10, 1699; and
WHEREAS, William Penn and Hannah Callowhill Penn resided at
Pennsbury Manor in Morrisville; and
WHEREAS, Hannah Callowhill Penn and William Penn made
remarkable contributions to this Commonwealth and to the
founding of our nation and were lifelong advocates of peace and
justice; and
WHEREAS, When William Penn became incapacitated by a stroke
in 1712, Hannah Callowhill Penn effectively governed in his name
