A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of October 2020 as "Employee Ownership
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, In 2018, there were more than 6,000 employee-owned
companies in the United States, employing more than 14 million
workers; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is home to more than 250 employee-owned
companies, employing more than 100,000 hardworking women and
men; and
WHEREAS, Since 2014, approximately 200 companies per year
have become employee owned; and
WHEREAS, The majority of employee-owned companies are owned
through stock ownership, empowering employees and allowing them
to receive greater benefits when the company succeeds; and
WHEREAS, Employee cooperatives, another form of employee
ownership, are less common with just under 400 companies, but
provide more power to employees allowing them full control on
major decisions with a one-voice, one-vote system; and

WHEREAS, When employees own the business, they can create a
work environment with jobs that offer competitive wages and
benefits and a chance to retire so that everyone can have a
brighter future; and
WHEREAS, The General Assembly needs to provide the tools and
opportunities for more companies to transition to employee
ownership or create new businesses under an employee-owned
model; and
WHEREAS, The success of employee-owned companies deserves to
be recognized and these businesses should be congratulated for
putting their workers first; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of October 2020 as "Employee Ownership Month" in
Pennsylvania.
