A RESOLUTION
Recognizing November 15, 2020, as "World Day of Remembrance for
Road Traffic Victims" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, RoadPeace first introduced a day dedicated to
remembering road traffic victims in 1995; and
WHEREAS, For the first 10 years after its inception, the
European Federation of Road Traffic Victims and its numerous
member organizations observed the day of remembrance; and
WHEREAS, On October 26, 2005, the member states of the United
Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 60/5, which called
for an annual "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic
Victims"; and
WHEREAS, Nongovernmental organizations, stakeholders and
governments themselves now commemorate "World Day of Remembrance
for Road Traffic Victims" globally; and
WHEREAS, The goals of "World Day of Remembrance for Road
Traffic Victims" include providing a platform for road traffic

victims and their families to remember all people killed and
injured on the roads, acknowledge the important work done by
emergency service personnel and advocate for better support for
road traffic victims and their families; and
WHEREAS, Globally, every 24 seconds, a person dies while on
the road; and
WHEREAS, There are 1.35 million road traffic deaths each
year; and
WHEREAS, Pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists account for
54% of traffic deaths; and
WHEREAS, Road traffic crashes are the leading cause of death
for children and young adults from 5 to 29 years of age; and
WHEREAS, Road traffic injuries are the eighth leading cause
of death worldwide; and
WHEREAS, In Pennsylvania, there were 125,267 reportable
vehicle crashes in 2019; and
WHEREAS, From the reportable vehicle crashes in 2019, there
were 1,059 total fatalities and 4,675 suspected serious
injuries; and
WHEREAS, It is vital to recognize the importance of road
traffic safety and commemorate all those who have been killed or
seriously injured as a result of road traffic incidents;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
November 15, 2020, as "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic
Victims" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the importance of road traffic safety be
emphasized year-round in this Commonwealth.
