A RESOLUTION
Urging the Congress of the United States to provide funding and
financial support to live performance venues and arts-related
nonprofit organizations especially distressed by the effects
of the COVID-19 pandemic.
WHEREAS, Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic affecting the
United States, live performance venues and arts-related
nonprofit organizations face unprecedented financial challenges,
uncertainty and prolonged closure; and
WHEREAS, Live performance venues, especially small
independently owned venues, were the first to close due to the
pandemic and are expected to be the last to reopen as they
require the gathering of large numbers of people; and
WHEREAS, Cancellation of events and the uncertain future of
the live performance industry has a broader impact not only on
the venue itself, but also on the surrounding community
negatively impacted by income lost due to the absence of event
attendees; and

WHEREAS, Live performance venues and arts-related nonprofit
organizations have been touted as the industries most affected
by the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is home to 340 live performance
venues and 15 arts-related nonprofit organizations; and
WHEREAS, Arts and live performance venues are forced to shut
for the health and safety of the public; and
WHEREAS, We must support arts and live performance venues to
ensure that they will still be around postpandemic for the
education and entertainment of all; and
WHEREAS, Federal assistance and support to these entities is
needed, including Senator Cornyn's Senate Bill 4258,
establishing the Save Our Stage or SOS Act; and
WHEREAS, We acknowledge that performance venues and arts-
related nonprofit organizations are an important factor in the
education and entertainment of the residents of this
Commonwealth, and having been extraordinarily impacted by the
COVID-19 pandemic they are deserving of financial aid and
support during these extraordinary times; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge the Congress of the United
States to provide funding and financial support to live
performance venues and arts-related nonprofit organizations
especially distressed by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
