A RESOLUTION
Commemorating the 76th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
WHEREAS, The Battle of the Bulge was the last major German
offensive campaign launched on December 16, 1944, through the
densely forested Ardennes region of Wallonia in Belgium, France
and Luxembourg on the Western Front toward the end of World War
II; and
WHEREAS, The Germans planned the offensive with the primary
goal of capturing the important harbor of Antwerp, Belgium; and
WHEREAS, The United States forces of approximately 610,000
troops bore the brunt of the attack and incurred the highest
casualties for any operation during the war; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 20,000 Americans were killed, 20,000
were captured and 40,000 were wounded during the Battle of the
Bulge; and
WHEREAS, The battle severely depleted Germany's armored

forces on the Western Front and its personnel and Luftwaffe
aircraft also sustained heavy losses; and
WHEREAS, The Battle of the Bulge ended on January 25, 1945,
with a victory for the Allied Forces; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the
76th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
