A RESOLUTION
Recognizing May 17, 2020, as "DIPG Awareness Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) affects 200
to 400 children in the United States each year; and
WHEREAS, Brain cancer is the leading disease-related cause of
death in children in the United States; and
WHEREAS, DIPG is the second most common pediatric brain
cancer and the leading cause of childhood death due to brain
tumors; and
WHEREAS, Children diagnosed with DIPG have a median survival
time of only nine months postdiagnosis with treatment and a five
year survival rate of less than one percent; and
WHEREAS, Prognosis has not improved for children with DIPG in
more than 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Funding for research for pediatric and high-
mortality-rate cancers needs to be given greater consideration
