A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of March 2020 as "American Red Cross
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Every day, residents of this Commonwealth depend on
the American Red Cross, whose volunteers, donors and community
partners power its lifesaving mission and service its provides;
and
WHEREAS, The American Red Cross has a long history of
providing shelter, care and hope during disasters; and
WHEREAS, The American Red Cross teaches skills that save
lives; and
WHEREAS, More than 200,000 residents of this Commonwealth
have received American Red Cross training in first aid, CPR and
other safety and rescue techniques; and
WHEREAS, The American Red Cross supplies blood products and
related services; and

WHEREAS, The American Red Cross makes our communities safer
and saves lives through the Home Fire Campaign; and
WHEREAS, Since the Home Fire Campaign started in 2014, more
than 100,000 free smoke alarms have been installed in homes in
this Commonwealth, and more than 2 million have been installed
nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Through the Service to the Armed Forces, the
American Red Cross aids military families, servicemembers and
veterans; and
WHEREAS, The Service to the Armed Forces has performed more
than 12,000 services, such as facilitating emergency
communications and giving financial assistance, in this
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Last year, 6,515 American Red Cross volunteers
responded when more than 3,800 families were affected by 2,305
home fires and other disasters in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, These individuals addressed urgent needs for food
and lodging and established recovery support systems; and
WHEREAS, Last year, more than 100 individuals from this
Commonwealth were among the nearly 9,000 American Red Cross
volunteers and staff who responded to Hurricane Dorian,
California wildfires, Midwest tornadoes and other large
disasters across our nation; and
WHEREAS, These individuals provided refuge, food, relief
items, emotional support, recovery planning and other
assistance; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives recognizes the American
Red Cross for preventing or alleviating suffering caused by an
emergency or disaster; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives recognizes the American

Red Cross for its vital humanitarian work on behalf of the
residents and communities of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives thanks and honors the
selfless individuals who conduct this work with compassion;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of March 2020 as "American Red Cross Month" in
Pennsylvania.
