A RESOLUTION
Designating April 26, 2020, as "Pretzel Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the center of American pretzel
production for both hard and crispy and soft bread types of
pretzels; and
WHEREAS, Southeastern Pennsylvania, with its large population
of German Americans, is considered the birthplace of the
American pretzel industry and many pretzel bakers are still
located in this area today; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania produces approximately 80% of the
nation's pretzels; and
WHEREAS, The Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, located in
Lititz, became the first commercial hard pretzel bakery in the
United States in 1861; and
WHEREAS, The Anderson Pretzel Bakery opened in Lancaster in
1888 and calls itself the world's largest pretzel factory,
producing approximately 65 tons of hard pretzels daily; and
