A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of March 2020 as "Irish-American Heritage
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, On March 17, 2020, the Irish community in this
Commonwealth celebrates the occasion of the feast of the
glorious apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick; and
WHEREAS, The theme of the 2020 St. Patrick's Day Parade in
Philadelphia is "250 Years of Faith, Family, Friendship and
Heritage"; and
WHEREAS, Fleeing political, religious and racial persecution
in Ireland, Irish immigrants arrived on our shores penniless and
unwanted, yet filled with hope that the United States held a
future in which Irish immigrants and their families would enjoy
the bountiful fruits of a nation founded upon the principles of
liberty and justice for all; and
WHEREAS, In every phase of our national history, Irish

Americans have been at the forefront of political, economic,
religious, social and artistic fields; and
WHEREAS, Irish-American contributions to this Commonwealth
are immeasurable; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania designate the month of March 2020
as "Irish-American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend its
felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community in this
Commonwealth on this momentous occasion; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar T.D., Department of the Taoiseach,
Government Buildings, Upper Merrion Street, Dublin 2, Ireland,
D02 R583, and President John A. Stevenson, St. Patrick's Day
Observance Association, P.O. Box 40744, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania 19107.
