A RESOLUTION
Honoring and recognizing the service and sacrifice of members of
the United States Armed Forces and their families on the
occasion of "Armed Forces Day," May 16, 2020.
WHEREAS, "Armed Forces Day" was established in 1949 in
connection with the consolidation of military services in the
United States Department of Defense; and
WHEREAS, "Armed Forces Day" honors the men and women who are
serving in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast
Guard, including National Guard and Reserve components; and
WHEREAS, Celebrated annually on the third Saturday in May,
"Armed Forces Day" is being held on May 16; and
WHEREAS, Members of the United States Armed Forces have
performed tremendous service on behalf of our nation; and
WHEREAS, Members of the United States Armed Forces have been
killed and injured in operations to bring peace and stability in

the name of democracy; and
WHEREAS, Americans appreciate the sacrifices of those persons
who bravely serve our nation; and
WHEREAS, Americans acknowledge those employers and businesses
that accommodate servicepersons who are called abroad in defense
of our nation; and
WHEREAS, Americans express their recognition and gratitude
for members of the United States Armed Forces at home and
abroad; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor and
recognize the service and sacrifice of members of the United
States Armed Forces and their families on the occasion of "Armed
Forces Day," May 16, 2020; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, on the occasion
of "Armed Forces Day,":
(1) remain committed to supporting servicepersons and
their families;
(2) encourage Pennsylvanians to show their support and
appreciation for servicepersons and their families;
(3) commend the actions of private citizens and
organizations who volunteer in support of our nation's
wounded warriors; and
(4) express the residents' of this Commonwealth's
gratitude to the members of the armed forces for their
service on behalf of the United States;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
military installations in this Commonwealth for appropriate
distribution.
