A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of April 2020 as "Sjogren's Syndrome
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Sjogren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease
in which an individual's white blood cells attack their
moisture-producing glands; and
WHEREAS, As many as 4 million Americans are living with
Sjogren's syndrome; and
WHEREAS, Being a systemic disease, Sjogren's syndrome can
affect all aspects of an individual's life; and
WHEREAS, Although its hallmark symptoms are dry eyes and dry
mouth, Sjogren's syndrome also causes serious complications
throughout the entire body, including fatigue, joint pain and
dysfunction of organs such as the kidneys, gastrointestinal
system, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas and the central
nervous system; and
WHEREAS, Individuals with Sjogren's syndrome also have a
higher risk of developing lymphomas; and

WHEREAS, Millions of individuals around the world are
afflicted with Sjogren's syndrome; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of April 2020 as "Sjogren's Syndrome Awareness Month" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That all Pennsylvanians be encouraged to learn more
about Sjogren's syndrome.
