A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of April 2020 as "Limb Loss Awareness
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, More than 2.1 million Americans of all ages, races
and genders have had amputations, and another 28 million
Americans are at risk for amputation; and
WHEREAS, Each day, more than 500 Americans lose a limb; and
WHEREAS, Limb loss is a lifetime condition, and the general
public is largely unaware of the many challenges faced by the
amputee community; and
WHEREAS, Limb loss can result in emotional, physical and
financial stress; and
WHEREAS, The leading causes of amputation are vascular
disease, trauma and cancer; and
WHEREAS, Prosthetic devices can be quite costly and often
need to be replaced every few years; and
WHEREAS, Individuals afflicted with limb loss must overcome
