A RESOLUTION
Designating April 16, 2020, as "4p-/Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome
Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, 4p- syndrome occurs due to a chromosomal deletion on
the short arm of chromosome 4, resulting in various physical
anomalies and developmental delays; and
WHEREAS, 4p- syndrome can result in Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome,
identifiable by distinct facial characteristics, cognitive and
physical development delays and intellectual disabilities; and
WHEREAS, The secondary medical complications associated with
4p- syndrome, such as congestive heart disease, pneumonia due to
a weak chest wall and uncontrollable seizures, lead to the
difficulty of caring for an individual with Wolf-Hirschhorn
syndrome; and
WHEREAS, The prevalence of Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome is
estimated to be 1 in every 50,000 births and, for an unknown
reason, females are twice as likely as males to be born with
